Mineral Extraction Latest

A 2014 survey of local land for mineral, sand and gravel extraction originally included 195 hectares of Scruton land put forward by a consortium of farmers and landowners following a ‘call for sites’ by North Yorkshire County Council.

After a lengthy process of consultation, plus the effort and influence of a locally formed pressure group, this land has now been successfully discounted.  This is not to say that at some time in the future the County Council may need to look at sources of sand and gravel, but for now we are assured that Scruton sites are excluded from the current programme. The Parish Council stays in regular contact with NYCC and will advise villagers directly if we learn of any potential threat to local landscapes.
