Scruton Station

From a start in 2003 of clearing the overgrowth at Scruton Station by a team of village volunteers, the project has attracted several substantial grants to ensure a successful refurbishment and ‘rebirth’ of a viable working station.

Scruton Railway Station

In 2015 Scruton Station was awarded Railway Heritage’s top Conservation Award, and this has been followed in 2016 with a Highly Commend award for the refurbishment of its gates, in 2017 the Best Small Museum of the Year award for its Heritage Education Programme and was winner of the best Operational Improvement award for its newly constructed platform.  in 2018 Scruton Station Education Programme runs a third year of school visits in which children dress in Edwardian clothing and undertake typical tasks such as weighing and labelling parcels etc.  A team of local volunteers role play and engage the children in life as it would have been experienced in 2017. The station was original closed in 1954 but, though not part of the regular timetable, Scruton Station is now acknowledged as a valuable part of Wensleydale Railway’s operations.
